Sometimes handscrew clamps don't have the reach you need. You can make your own with custom jaws.

Drawing of custom clamp pieces

I use handscrew clamps often, but sometimes they don't have the reach I need. So I made my own with custom jaws.

I ordered Dubuque handscrew kits from Lee Valley that include the threaded rods, barrel nuts, and handle ferrules. Next, I cut extra-long custom jaws from hardwood. Following the instructions for the placement of the holes in the jaws, I marked then drilled them.

After assembling the hardware with a pair of jaws, I now have the handy handscrews I need to get that extra reach.
