Need to put a straight, square edge on a board too long for your jointer? The best solution might be the old-school method: with a hand plane.Clamp the bowed board with the crowned edge up, then start planing at the highest point in the crown, gradually working your way out to the both ends. You could use any hand plane for the task, but for jointing long boards like this, the longer the plane the better. (John is using a vintage No. 8 plane in the video.) You'll know you're nearly done when you remove a uniform shaving the full length of the board. Periodically check the edge with a small square to ensure the face and edge are square to one another and correct as necessary.
