Support your local stand: The inexpensive roller stands I bought had one major weakness—they collapse with the slightest bump or nudge. This quick and easy fix results in a rock-solid support.

I made a locking latch from an aluminum strip 9-3/4" long. After drilling a 5/16" hole 1" from each end, I cut a notch in one end. I used these holes to locate the screws on the stand that secure the latch, then drilled and tapped for 8-32 threads. I secured the pivot end of the latch to the stand using a roundhead machine screw. A screw in the opposing leg engages the slot on the latch. I tightened the screws as needed to adjust tension.
